MURDERS

Many Central Massachusetts residents are coming to a conclusion that they could be murdered and the District Attorney's office would never arrest the murderer.

Take the murder of Candace Scola, for instance. The woman was murdered in 2002 the case remains unsolved. We can say the same with Marlon Santos, a baby in DSS foster care, who disappeared years ago and is presumed to be dead. No arrests have been made. Little Marlon should be in elementary school by now.

One of the most heart-wrenching cases is the abduction and murder of Molly Bish, whose father works for District Attorney John J. Conte. After more than 5 years, the case has not been solved and it appears that the District Attorney has been reluctant to cooperate with any other agencies or concerned people who could help bring the murderer to justice.  As concerned citizens, we must ask what the purpose is of having a never-ending Grand Jury be called to hear testimony in this case. The taxpayers money might better be used to find the murderer rather than paying to keep a special Grand Jury in session.

Prosecutor withdraws in Scola murder case

With no resolution, probe could start all over again

WORCESTER— Two years after special prosecutor Joseph P. Gaughan was appointed to review the politically sensitive investigation into the 2002 murder of Candace Allen Scola, he has withdrawn from the case for health reasons without recommending whether it should be brought before a grand jury.

Worcester District Attorney Joseph D. Early Jr. said yesterday the probe will be turned over to Plymouth District Attorney Timothy J. Cruz’s office for a third review of the evidence — a step that could add months or years to the family’s already long wait for justice. ...

Last November, Mr. Gaughan told a Telegram & Gazette columnist that he was wrapping up his investigation and that he hoped to have final forensic test results in about six to eight weeks.

More than a year later — and 5-1/2 years after Ms. Scola was stabbed to death in the kitchen of her Knox Street home — there’s still no decision in sight on whether the case should be brought before a grand jury.

Police and dive team members can be seen working in the woods at the end of Eugene Street and firefighters and others are going into the woods at the end of Gordon Street. Police with canines are taking turns circling the surrounding area. The woods are in the area where the child lived.

Taj Narbonne disappeared from his home on Naples Street on March 31, 1981.

Is a Serial Killer on the Loose in Massachusetts?

Is a serial killer stalking women and girls in Massachusetts? Two decades, nearly 10 unsolved murders and kidnaps in one small section of the state. And tonight, we connect the dots, focusing on three of those crimes in an attempt to crack them all: a 17-year-old high school senior, a 29-year-old young woman found dead behind a private school, and a third, a 10-year-old girl. Tonight, we want answers.

In 2004, Carmen Rudy (ph), 29 years old, her body found behind an exclusive private school. In 1993, 10-year-old Holly Piirainen abducted, killed, Sturbridge, Massachusetts. Hundreds interviewed. No resolution.

But first tonight, Patricia Gonyea, 17-year-old high school senior from Worcester, lost her life as she walked home from the bus stop.

Jurors deliberate in trial of Geoghan's alleged killer

By Denise Lavoie, Associated Press Writer

WORCESTER, Mass. --Jurors are trying to determine if a convicted killer was insane when he beat and strangled pedophile priest John Geoghan in his cell, or if he was "calculating" murderer, as prosecutors allege.

After more than two weeks of testimony that centered largely on whether Joseph Druce was insane when he killed Geoghan, a central figure in the clergy sex abuse scandal that started in Boston, the jury now has the case.

Deliberations were set to resume on Wednesday. The jury of five women and seven men deliberated for more than three hours Tuesday before adjourning.

Scola case gets special prosecutor - Conte says evidence ‘is ripe for assessment'

WORCESTER - A special prosecutor has been named to review evidence, including the results of recently completed DNA testing, in the 2002 stabbing death of 32-year-old Candace Allen Scola.

District Attorney John J. Conte said yesterday that Joseph P. Gaughan, a former first assistant district attorney in Plymouth County, has been hired to assess the evidence to determine whether there is enough to seek a grand jury indictment. Mr. Gaughan's appointment as a special prosecutor comes in the wake of recently completed DNA tests on what Mr. Conte described in a press release as "significant pieces of evidence."

MORE INFORMATION CITED IN BISH CASE

Without providing specifics, the Worcester district attorney's office revealed yesterday that previously unknown information has been uncovered in the case of Molly Bish, a 16-year-old lifeguard from Warren who disappeared June 27, 2000. Her remains were discovered in Palmer in June 2003. An investigation by State Police and the district attorney's office has generated more than 7,000 leads, according to a news release issued by the district attorney's office. Because of the vast amount of information, the district attorney's office assembled an investigative grand jury to take testimony and preserve evidence. To date, more than 250 witnesses have been called, and more than 70 exhibits have been examined and submitted. Specifics on that information have not been released because of the secrecy rules of grand jury proceedings

Mr. Conte said he has assigned Assistant District Attorney Timothy M. Bibaud to work with the officers.
